Related documentation describes this object as having "belonged to Mr. Apsley and is a silver facsimile of a rubber boot [and was presented] at a Banquet and Ball with 600 guests in the Opera House [including] international guests from the countries receiving Apsley products." Engravings on sides of boot read "Presented to Hon. L.D. Apsley by the Employees of the Apsley Rubber Co. Oct 31, 1900" and "Apsley Rubber Co. Washstand Boot." Engraving on botton of boot reads "Apsley Rubber Co. Hudson Mass."
